W鈥媓ere are you from? I am from the Hartford area of Connecticut
Where have you traveled to, or where would you like to go? I would really like to travel to Ireland as my family is from there and I have some international friends living there. I also would like to visit many other countries my friends are located in like Mexico, Bolivia, and Colombia.
Why did you become an International Orientation Leader? I became an international orientation leader because after having an international roommate my first year and meeting many international friends during my time as a camp counselor, I realized how hard it is to come to a brand new place, new language, and new culture. I also realized that even having just one friend to help support you through this time will help someone become successful. Therefore, I want to be that support and help students navigate this exciting journey.
What are you most excited about for this new semester? I am excited to meet even more people from all around the world and to explore new opportunities/experiences on campus.

W鈥媓ere are you from? Cape Verde
Where have you traveled? My home country, Cabo Verde, is an archipelago of 10 islands, and I was born on Santiago Island. I have had the opportunity to visit eight of the islands, and each one is unique. Exploring them has given me a deeper appreciation for the beauty and diversity of my home country. I have also traveled to Portugal, and I would love to return someday.
Why did you become an International Orientation Leader? As an international student, I know how meaningful Orientation Week can be when you are beginning a new chapter far away from your home, family, and familiar surroundings. I became an International Orientation Leader because I want to help new international students feel welcomed, supported, and connected from the moment they arrive.
What are you most excited about for this new semester? I am most excited about meeting new people, learning from different perspectives and experiences, and building meaningful connections on campus.

Where have you traveled, or where would you like to go? I really want to visit London! I've heard that London is especially beautiful in the winter.
Why did you become an International Orientation Leader? Having experienced orientation as an exchange student last semester, I received so much helpful support from everyone. That inspired me to become an IOL so I could give back and help new exchange students feel just as welcomed and supported!
What are you most excited about for this new semester? I'm super excited about all the fun events coming up this semester, especially Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Christmas!
