Prerequisite; ENGL 102 Classical rhetoric is usually thought of as the art of persuasion, and most often is studied in terms of speech
or writing. Rhetoric, as we will discuss, is described in broad terms as the creation and analysis of an act of
communication or the transmission of emotion and thought to persuade others. This course will introduce
you to concepts, practices, and tensions in the study of rhetoric. It also serves as one of the two foundational
courses for Writing and Writing Studies in English. Offered fall or spring semester.
