Prerequisite: SPED 510 with a minimum grade of "B" This graduate-level methods course prepares educators to design and implement effective instruction for young children with disabilities in both inclusive and substantially separate early childhood settings (PreK鈥揋rade 2). Emphasis is placed on evidence-based instructional practices, with a focus on developmentally appropriate methods for foundational literacy, social-emotional learning, and adaptive behavior. The course examines the historical and policy foundations of early childhood special education, developmental trajectories in early learning, and risk factors in prenatal and postnatal care. Students will engage in assessment practices, referral and placement processes, and collaborative planning across educational teams. Special attention is given to the integration of families as partners in decision-making and instruction.
