FullCourseDesc
Prerequisite: PHOE 301 Corequisite: PHOE 344L Students will study the fundamentals on signal imaging and processing as well as the effect of coherence and holography. The course focuses on the fundamentals of diffraction in the Fresnel and Fraunhofer regimes. Students will examine the effects of the spectral and spatial extent of the source on the coherence of the optical signal and the formation of images, as well as the properties of optical images in incoherent illumination with and without aberrations. Basics on holography and speckle will be discussed mathematically and with lab experiments. Offered alternate years.
