Prerequisite: PHYS 244 with a minimum grade of "C-" Corequisite: PHOE 330L This course serves as an introduction to the principles and design of optical fiber communication systems including the optoelectronic devices used in transmitters and receivers. In lecture, students will understand the function and characteristics of fiber as transmission channels as well as the devices used with fiber for transmitters and receivers. In lab, students will design, build and test fiber optic communication systems. Three hours of lecture and three hours of laboratory weekly. Offered alternate years.
