Prerequisite: Matriculation into the Master of Science program in Biology or consent of instructor This course introduces a diverse range of techniques applied in the fields of ecology, environmental sciences and natural resource measurement. Students will conduct field and laboratory methods involved in evaluating the biological, physical and chemical properties of terrestrial, wetland and aquatic systems. Concepts and laboratory exercises will address both theoretical background and practical applications related to ecological techniques. The lab will be a project-based focus on hands-on experience in standard methods used by various state and federal agencies for systemic monitoring on landscapes, vegetation, water quality and quantity, biological communities and habitats, ecosystems and animal populations. At least two Saturday field trips are required. Offered fall semester. Additional fee required.
