FullCourseDesc
Prerequisite: SPED 570 with a minimum grade of "B" The course introduces the science of behavior analysis, and the basic concepts and principles of behavior analysis (e.g., reinforcement, punishment). It helps students understand the basic principles of behavior and apply those principles to make meaningful changes in their clients’ behavior. Key principles such as reinforcement, extinction and punishment will be reviewed in detail. Students will learn about basic procedures for increasing adaptive behaviors as well as procedures for decelerating challenging behavior. While punishment is reviewed, emphasis is placed on the use of nonpunitive procedures to reduce behavior and reinforcement to establish alternative responses. Several measurement procedures will be reviewed along with methods for selecting and defining target behaviors. Issues of equity, diversity and inclusion are covered throughout the course. This course meets the BACB requirements for 45 hours of basic principles of behavior. Offered fall, spring, summer.
